“Top performance from everyone in the team”

ZOLDER. This weekend the Belcar Endurance Championship called on Circuit Zolder for the annual classic endurance race, the 24 Hours of Zolder, the biggest endurance event in the northern region part of Belgium. VEIDEC Silver Eagle by GETSPEED, entered two Mercedes AMG-GT4, manned by Wim Spinoy, Kenneth Heyer, Christiaan Frankenhout and Hendrik Still on the one hand and Michaël Cool, Bart Van Samang, Sven Van Laere and Johan Vannerum on the other. Both cars experienced a diverse race, but finished up front in the rankings, with a brilliant victory for Michaël Cool, Bart Van Samang, Sven Van Laere and Johan Vannerum in the GT4 class.

This season VEIDEC Silver Eagle by GETSPEED has already proved itself, with five pole positions and five victories in as many races of the Belcar Endurance Championship. The 24 Hours of Zolder was no exception.

Wim Spinoy: “The 24 Hours of Zolder kicked off perfectly for us with pole position in our class and the best starting position of the GT4 cars and other cars that could come out in our class. It was a great honour for me to be able to tackle the Superpole, especially when you take into consideration who my other teammates are.  Up until now that was definitely one of the greatest moments out of my motorsport career.”

From pole position the green machine went into the lead, but for Wim Spinoy matters soon turned sour.  Kenneth Heyer saw the incident and explains:

“Wim was nudged by a lapped car and the outcome was the guard rail upon exiting the fast Bianchi bend. We roughly lost one hour, but the Getspeed men did brilliant work and we got the Mercedes AMG-GT4 back in a perfect driving condition. It was then up to us to put in a catch-up race … every member of the team threw themselves 110% into the battle and thanks to a well thought out strategy, faultless driving stints and the renowned reliability of the Mercedes AMG-GT4 we fought our way back into eleventh place. This climb back through the ranks taste more like a victory, thanks to the brilliant input from everyone!”

In the meanwhile, the team’s red car charged on like a train. After the 24-hour race, a highly demanding edition in fact, the foursome manning the #93 Mercedes finished in ninth place and winner in the GT4 class.

Johan Vannerum: “What a race, what a car and what a team … I’m truly satisfied. This is the second consecutive victory in GT4 in this tough race, and I can but thank everyone who made all this possible.”

Sven Van Laere: “I can but confirm Johan’s comment, this is fabulous … I thoroughly enjoyed the race!”

Press Release 1-2019 VEIDEC Silver Eagle by GETSPEED

-    VEIDEC Silver Eagle by GETSPEED ready for the kick-off
-    Wim Spinoy and Kenneth Heyer aiming for the GT4-title in Belcar Endurance Championship

“What is greater than starting during the DTM?”

Last season a new team appeared on the Belgian race circuits, namely a team led by Wim Spinoy: SBM Racing. In the intermediate season the team was given a new name: that of Silver Eagle Racing, with on top of that a structure comprised not out of one, but two AMG-Mercedes GT4. Both cars will be entered in the Belcar Endurance Championship. On top of that a title sponsorship was concluded so that we are now talking about the VEIDEC Silver Eagle by GETSPEED.

This season VEIDEC Silver Eagle by GETSPEED will be competing in the Belcar Endurance Championship with two Mercedes-AMG GT4 and with accompanying, quite clear ambitions. First and foremost, the team is out for the GT4 class title, a title that slipped through their hands during their 2018 maiden season.

Wim Spinoy (driver – team manager): “We have built up a fair amount of experience and together with the knowledge of GETSPEED, we are out to convert this into a title. It goes without saying that the 2019 season’s highpoint will be the 24 Hours of Zolder, where more than anything we have our eyes on victory in GT4.  Our AMG-Mercedes GT4 machines are highly reliable and we want to finish as high as possible in the renowned Belgian endurance race.”

The season’s first weekend is pretty exceptional. Not only is the Belcar Endurance Championship racing on Saturday and Sunday at Circuit Zolder, but also the world’s best-known Touring Car Championship: the DTM. Top teams, with top drivers will over two days ensure a great spectacle for the well-filled grandstands.

Wim Spinoy: “DTM is an incredible championship with nothing but great names at the start and it’s brilliant that the Belcar Championship will be a part of it throughout the weekend. On the sporting front it’s not only a challenge, but also ideal for the sponsors and partners who at first hand can see the impact motorsport has. We are delighted that the organisers of the Belcar Endurance Championship planned to open the calendar with such a brilliant weekend.”

The Belcar Endurance Championship races take place on Saturday and Sunday, with on each occasion the start around 17.00hrs.

We will also see VEIDEC Silver Eagle by GETSPEED in a few other endurance races, among which the 24 Hours of Barcelona, the 24 Hours COTA and the 12 Hours of Dubai. Whether that will be in GT4 or GT3 has not as yet been decided. The team composition will also be made known later.
